Our Story

It started in a fitting room.

Eighteen years ago, our founder stood in a department-store fitting room with an armful of dresses in the biggest size the store carried. She had a wedding to go to that Saturday. Not one of those dresses zipped. Not one of them was made for a body like hers. The "plus" rack held the same three shapeless tents in black and navy, and the sales assistant suggested she "try a scarf."

She went home empty-handed. She was a size 22, she loved fashion, and she was tired of being treated as an afterthought.

So she made the dress herself.

At her kitchen table, she cut a pattern that started where everything else went wrong: the thighs that rub, the waistband that rolls, the hips that get ignored when a small pattern is simply scaled up. She wore that dress to the wedding. By the end of the night, three women had asked where she bought it.

That is how Thighrise began. A few dresses for friends. Then friends of friends. Then a waiting list. The name came from what we wanted every woman to feel: not hidden, not covered up, but rising. Thighs and all.

Eighteen years later.

The kitchen table became a studio, the studio became a team of designers, pattern makers and fit specialists, and Thighrise grew into one of the names women across the country trust for plus-size clothing. Many of the women who shopped with us came back season after season.

What has not changed is the rule she started with: we design for sizes 1X–4X from the very first sketch, never as an afterthought. Every pattern is fitted on real plus-size bodies. Every size chart is measured on the garment itself, so you can check before you buy instead of hoping after.
